Your Rights And Duties

Your Rights and Duties as a Borrower

A mortgage is among the most serious legal obligations you will undertake. In fact, not everyone is entitled to a mortgage loan, and those who have one have certain duties to perform. As a borrower, you also have rights and should be treated as an important customer of a lending institution.

Your Rights as a Borrower

1.  To understand your loan terms
2.  To talk to someone who will listen
3.  To be given reasonable flexibility in meeting your

     payment obligations
4.  To be given a reasonable amount of time to make

     payments
5.  To not be exploited or ignored

Your Duties as a Borrower

1.  To tell the truth to those involved with your mortgage
2.  To pay what is properly due and owing
3.  To talk to lenders who are willing to talk to you
4.  To be realistic and acknowledge the facts
5.  To ask questions when something is unclear
